Futurama
Futurama is an iconic American animated science fiction sitcom crafted by Matt Groening, who is also renowned for creating The Simpsons. The show debuted on the Fox Broadcasting Company and presents the humorous escapades of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery employee from 20th-century New York City. After inadvertently being cryogenically frozen for a millennium, Fry awakens in the eclectic 31st century, where he lands a job at Planet Express, a company specializing in interplanetary deliveries.
The conception of Futurama took place in the mid-1990s while Groening was busy with The Simpsons. He teamed up with David X. Cohen to flesh out the characters and plotlines, leading to a successful pitch to Fox. The series enjoyed a fruitful run from March 28, 1999, to August 10, 2003, before production was halted. However, its charm continued to resonate with audiences, resulting in reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim from 2003 to 2007, until the show's contract with the network came to an end. In a further revival, Futurama was adapted into four direct-to-video films, with the final installment released in early 2009.
In a notable twist, Comedy Central struck a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to syndicate the old episodes and release them as 16 new, half-hour episodes, effectively creating a fifth season.
